“London Fashion Week is something I’ve never even done,” says Rihanna, and the novelty factor added to the excitement for the Barbadian singer and budding fashion personality as she unveiled her collection with River Island over the weekend.
The girl Rihanna has designed the collection for “is full of personality, full of sass, but loves fashion,” she says.
“Rihanna absolutely loves London style and loves how London kids dress,” added River Island’s Arieta Mujay. The R&B singer “wants her fans to be able to dress and feel like Rihanna.”
Sam Bryant was makeup artist on the project while Johnnie Sapong was the hair stylist for the show. Working with “interesting silhouettes” and the “figure hugging, quite sexy” shapes of the collection his references were “downtown New York, late 80s Debbie Harry mixed with 90s London.”
Famous male model Tyson Beckford was one of the many celebrity fans at the show and called the collection “so her”, “you can definitely tell that it’s inspired by her,” he added. Also sitting on the front row was British model Jourdan Dunn who stars in the advertising campaign for the brand, and took in the show with BFF and fellow supermodel Cara Delevingne.
Rihanna also announced that she was currently working with the River Island teams on an upcoming Fall collection. “We’re not stopping,” said the star, who added that the clothes will be “a whole different flip from the Spring-Summer collection.”
