Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham is touring South Africa again this month, see him performing to sold out audiences across the country during his last tour in 2010. Dunham included SA in his 2010 world tour plans due to his visible popularity with South African YouTube viewers. Cranky Walter, Achmed the terrorist and crazy Peanuts share their feelings about touring here and in their usual manner – do not mince their words.
Jeff Dunham is doing it again in 2012. With Johannesburg tickets sold out and only limited tickets available for Sun City, Durban and Cape Town, an extra show has been added to the Cape Town run of his latest international tour “Controlled Chaos” to meet the overwhelming demand at the box office.
Dunham’s global appeal is undeniable. His television specials and series have been the highest rated programming in Comedy Central history, his DVD sales have reached seven million units, his videos have received a half a billion views on You Tube, and his live concerts have become mega-events played in front of sold-out arenas worldwide. A video of Jeff featuring his character Achmed the Dead Terrorist remains in the top ten most “favorited” and 40 most “liked” of all time on YouTube.
Jeff’s latest, much-anticipated fourth stand-up special, Controlled Chaos, became the third most watched program in the history of Comedy Central within days of airing.
A spokesperson from Comedy Central Africa refers to Jeff Dunham as “Comedy Royalty”.
“We are thrilled to host him on his sell-out tour to South Africa! Comedy Central has dedicated the whole of June to Jeff Dunham; tune in to Comedy Central on DSTV channel 122 to watch all Jeff’s blockbuster comedy specials as well as his award-winning show ‘Controlled Chaos’ as part of Jeff Dunham June mania”.
With two new characters, fans in Cape Town, Durban, Sun City and Johannesburg, can see firsthand why he has been voted “the most popular comedian in the United States.”
Along with two new characters, fans will still get to see Walter, the grumpy retiree; the beer-swilling, NASCAR-loving and resolutely red neck Bubba J; the furry and manic Peanut; José Jalapeño, the spicy pepper from South of the border; and the bumbling skeletal Achmed the Dead Terrorist. They may have all been conceived and hand crafted by Dunham, but his characters, who are anything but dummies, have now taken on a life of their own, each with their own legion of fans.
This guy must make a dummy of malema. It will be a little monkey with a dummy in its mouth and a nappy.
Debbie just think what uproaring that will be, funny Put him and Trevor Noah together he is also fun, and trevor already makes fun of malema.

I agree that it sucks to live in a small town and not have the artists come to it, but what about the towns that aren’t near a bigger city? They don’t get people to visit there either. I used to live in a little town that you had to travel five hours before you would hit a city that only a few artists would come to. It’s not fair, but they have to go where the money takes them.
As an artist, I feel I should mention here that it’s not a matter of fairness or of money (We do a LOT of free concerts). It’s about time. There is a lot that goes into putting on a show and there is only so much time to do it. You therefore need to ensure that you have the maximum exposure for the time allotted for your fans. If we had a choice to perform to 100,000 people or 100, given the same amount of time needed to do the show (set up, advertising, marketing, checks, performance, breakdown, etc), which do you think is going to happen? I really DO feel badly for the hundred who miss the shows, but is it fair to the 100 THOUSAND that we put our time into such a smaller venue and then can’t do the larger show? It just doesn’t make much sense to do that, does it?
In today’s culture of easy information, the folks who cannot make it to the shows can STILL enjoy the performances to some degree via CD’s, DVD’s, Internet, etc., so they are not completely locked out. There are fan sites where they can interact with other fans, and sometimes even the artists themselves! There are newsletters in most cases. And if enough fans from neighboring small towns can agree to come together in one spot, you MIGHT be able convince the artists to visit you if you can allow them to do so without all the normal support they typically need (In the case of Crooked Timber, we are VERY likely to do very small shows if we can do them unplugged, or just need to show up with nothing more than our guitars, and all other expenses are paid for).
In short, please don’t condemn the object of your admiration for not coming to your small towns. It’s nothing personal, and they really do appreciate you! There’s just not enough time to do a live performance EVERYWHERE.
Anybody got any idea as to if or when the S.A tour dvd will be released. I was at the Sun City show and it was absolutely brillant. I cant wait to get my hands on the DVD.
I Saw him live and he was amazing!!!!!!!!!
