Sunday Times Political Editor S’thembiso Msomi talks to Sunday Times Editor Ray Hartley about what the nation can expect from the ANC’s National General Council happening this week. Msomi shares his thoughts on the escalating divisions between Zuma, COSATU and the ANCYL; How prevalent the ANCYL’s policies of nationalisation and ‘generational mix’ will be; Whether Zuma is falling apart, and whether Kgalema Motlanthe will be the biggest challenger for the ANC presidency in 2012.
the issue of the centre of power within the alliance is always unsatifactory in the sense that ANC is said to be a strategic leader of the alliance but the Cosatu whose members enjoying majority is being marginalised into power,, yes indeed ANC is a liberation movement that has overwhelming support but with out the SACP and COSATU it wont be easy for them to climb into the corridors of government.
The ANC must stop fooling the people by saying the NGC was a success. What success? The President JZ said that whoever ‘crosses the line’ must face the consequences. Now within a week, there has been war of words between Malema,Mbalula and Vavi. The question is, Why are they not charged? Well I know JZ doesn’t have that mandate to charge them as the NGC has ended, because he said he personally can not take decisions because only the organisation can take decisions.Malema has spoken. ‘Those who are not supporting me in nationalisation of mines, will be ousted from the ANC’. Come 2012, JZ and others will be ousted. Malema has spoken.
We expect nothing but family and children getting rich.
