Living with HIV # 2: Access to essential medicines
Stagnation of HIV/AIDS funding and the high cost of new medicines put the lives of thousands of poor patients at risk. Many patients needing new drug regimens simply have to go without.

Dr. Eric Goemaere is the medical coordinator for MSF in South Africa and Lesotho. He has been treating HIV in the region for 10 years.
Mpumi Mantangana
Mpumi is the nursing sister in charge at the Ubuntu Clinic in Khayelitsha township, on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa.
Nomafu Booi
Nomafu has been on antiretroviral treatment since 2004. Last October, she faced severe side effects from her medicine, and started a new antiretroviral drug regimen as a 2nd line treatment. Now Nomafu is facing complications with the 2nd line treatment. There is no 3rd line treatment available to her in Khayelitsha.
