I've been surfing online for more than two and a half hours today, but I couldn't find a well written articles like yours was. It’s well done & has some worth for what I'm looking for. If all webmasters and bloggers made the right content as what you did, the internet could probably be a lot more helpful.

@ Nicolaas

i like your thinking process, although i do not agree with your position. you are clearly a supporter of orthox economics and market-driven economic fundamentals. You are correct that no one in a bourgeois society will be keen to invest in a company with majority shares held by the governement as it limits the margins of profit maximisation because of the conflicting interests of goverment and individual capitalists.

You need to be aware, however, that nationalisation does not mena the end of capitalism, it is also nothing equal to socialism as you seem to sugest of Julius Malema. In my understanding, nationalisation as conceived by Julius Malema, it will still be capitalism driven by the interst of the elite bureaucracy in government - the newly acquired enterprised will still be subjected to the realities of the free market.

In criticking your market driven economics , I would say look back to what has happened to south africa since the advent of what is termed the 1996 class project which is characterised by the capital friendly macro-economic policies like GEAR, inflation targeting policies of the Reserve Bank etc. The poor (particularly black working classes) have paid a huge price for what you would like us to see as the panecea of all social and economic troubles SA is faced with.

Anyone who would want to suggest that by calling for the nationalisation of the mines, Julius is representing the interests of the working class better think again. you cannot conceive of a working nationalisation in the context of current economic fundamentals. If Julius a trully a champion of the working class interests he must call for the review of current economic policy frame work and a new industrial strategy within the context of a new economic policy that is driven by the needs of its people.

since the advent of GEAR and the subjection of SA economy into the so-called free market, south africa has become the most unequal country in the world with a new crop of black dollar billionaires to give a failing system credebility in terms of wealth distribution.

I can write the whole day in exposing the evils of the so-cqalled free-market economics, because there is nothing free and good about the free market.

Nationalization is a good idea , especially in this day of layoffs but its also an easy corruptible system, and given the ANC's track record on nationalization I think they should rather talk about how its going to be managed if it happens. Yes while they mine owners are keeping their profit margin, they are also pumping that money back into the economy of South Africa, investing in opening up new businesses and creating new jobs, how many jobs that the ANC promised has not come through. The only way i see this working is if a board is set up comprising of equal amount of members from each of the top 5 political parties , to keep track of expenses and income, and most of all that no a single government official gets a cent, other than the job he is paid for by the tax payer to do.

Too many times ANC has been nationalizing properties and businesses for the purpose of BEE where mostly corrupt government officials pulled the benefit from it, how many farms that where bought by the tax payers money fell into the back pocket of some ANC fatcat?

Above all else nationalization must mean it belongs to all South Africans not the government or ruling party !!!
