Afghanistan has become the opium capital of the world. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime wants to target the industry. A recent report states that opium production has decreased. Executive Director of the UNODC, Antonia Mario Costa cautioned that “controlling drugs in Afghanistan will not solve all of the country’s problems, but the country’s problems can not be solved without controlling drugs”.
