Nando’s television advert

Please be patient while the player loads...

THE ANC Youth League has called for the withdrawal of Nando’s television advert which allegedly pokes fun at it’s president Julius Malema. In an apparent case of sense of humour failure the youth league says the advert uses “cheap satire” and  calls it “racist” for portraying “political leaders as cartoons”. Watch the controversial advert here.

Brilliant – satire has a very important place in our democracy – the ANCYL should lighten up

Your last minute electioneering serves no purpose 2/3rds in your face..TAKE THAT

concerned

shame on you Zuma. Shame on you ANC. Shame on you South Africa.

22 April 2009

mameim

It’s a brilliant ad – and you woke up too late. When the election is over, the ad will be gone, and we will all have laughed long and loud at the fabulous portrayal of the ANC’s “decoy”, who was so busy being a decoy that he didn’t get to watch TV…

22 April 2009

Krabbe

Satire – democracy = simbiosis

ANCYL : relax your mind.
The reaction is absolutely embarrassing & ridiculous

22 April 2009

OPENMIC

The best part of the advert is right at the end, when the puppet’s eyes look upwards towards the puppet-master. Priceless.

22 April 2009

SAAN

to label the ad as racist it has to be demeaning to all black people… guess what the ad is all about Malema, as a black man, i am not offended one bit… the jokes is on you malema

22 April 2009

Ben Wulfsohn

Excellent political satire that probably offends the “holy cows”, so what else is new!

22 April 2009

Porcupine_Quill

Guaranteed this Village Idiot tries to “Do a Zuma” and sue someone for this VERY ACCURATE AND TRUTHFUL REPRESENTATION OF IDIOCY.

All Hail and bow before the President Peri Peri Burned out Chicken Wing.

(the eyes slyly looking to Master are indeed PRICELESS!!!)

22 April 2009

Jenny

Does Malema not wonder why he is constantly ridiculed anyway?

22 April 2009

fuzile

julius so many people envy you. the best they can do is to try and ridicule you., nandos strategist is not foolish.

22 April 2009

KD

“racist” go back to school and learn the meaning of the word and while you at it learn a few new words to better describe what it is you really want to say .. and not use the “racist” card. All it says to me is that you are not educated.
oh and I am black.
you politicians are not god! take a joke without making yourself look stupid!!

22 April 2009

oldlefty

what is the problem ? it’s a great ad. good work nandos, as usual.

ancyl demonstrating their ignorance and immaturity.

22 April 2009

Dino

Good advert, as you’d expect from Nandos- a bit of controversy. The ANCYL should not take it too hard, it’s a joke and satire is an importan, vital indication of a thriving, pluralist, freedom of speech democracy.
Besides… the biggest parody of Malema is Malema.

22 April 2009

TS

The ad. is trying to discourage our future leader. Malema is one of the unique. he is strong. He stand the hit. The ad. is a desgrace. Shame on you Nandos

22 April 2009

Sam

Excellent by nandos time for the ANCYL to grow the is nothing wrong about the ad the problem is the arrogamnce and idiocy shown by the
Stupid YL.

22 April 2009

Thomas C Kantha

We are not living in the Apartheid era Mr.Malema. Fifteen years ago I put away my race card and voted for freedom of
speech. Sometimes humour is a good medicine for the problems facing South Africa.
Do not abuse your powers Mr. Malema .
Now Nandos you are in the wrong to. That is not Mr. Malema but he was used for your CM.
Now let us move on with a little better understanding about race realtionship.

22 April 2009

Monwabisi Julius

This is one of the best advert i have ever seen, now all Nandos need to do is to offer a special mega burger and name Malema Mega Burger

22 April 2009

DC

Clever advert – Nandos will sell more chicken regardless and the negative response by the ANCYL will make the ad even more popular. They should respond rather with a deep laugh and say: “Write me up or write me down – but write me!”

22 April 2009

Thabo

This is a very good ad, immediately after I saw it I ran to my nearest Nandos and paid with a R100 note and received more change then I paid for the meal. So i don’t see what’s the issue here Julius, you should be happy at least this time around people are listening to you. If you ask me Julius should thank Nandos.

22 April 2009

Kickass

Hi Julius…..who’s your daddy???

22 April 2009

Lungi

I do not have a problem with freedom of speech, what I do have a problem with, is people like KD. I hope you really are black, because I do not believe in wasting effort responding to white people’s comments, anything negative about us is good to white people, (divide and rule). The problem with people like you, is, as soon as you get a little education, you feel you have to be above the rest of the blacks. People need to be proud of themselves, never detest yourselves vicariously through others, love yourselves the way you are.

22 April 2009

Sipho

Bloody stinking chicken company has ran out of marketing and advertizing budget.

22 April 2009

fana

I feel this ad potray Malema as foolish person ,more so it sends negative message that a black man cannot think ,it also gives anc a bad image .I view this ad as part of election campaign by nandos check the timing of the ad.

23 April 2009

hapi_cdn

I heard about this advert and had to look it up. I think its hilarious and well done. Timing is suspect but hey, Nandos is a business like any other and marketing is kinda important, no? Yeah, my heart goes out to poor Big Mouth Malema. A gentleman would ignore and focus on something a little more important like say… umm… POLITICS??! In the meanwhile, I’ll take 2 Malema Mega Burgers to go.

23 April 2009

Muzi

This ad is very good. I told my kid that this ad shows that even if U take the shortest route (taking subjects like woodwork) you`ll become the laughing stock of those who are educated. Nando`s keep up the good work and the ANCYL should be aware : more ads on Malema are coming.

23 April 2009

LinuxRules

Brilliant advert.

Nando’s will get MORE mileage out of this advert’s negative response by the ANCYL than if the ANCYL had just shut up about it.

Refer to the blind person advert where the dog deviates. Nando’s scored more on the responses than anyone could have imagined.

People will be talking about this for weeks or months to come.

23 April 2009

nands

guys this is not about politics, the advert that is. why is that everything has to be politically correct, it’s just an ad a stupid ad. so what they used Julius how many Julius’s do you know, who says that is Malema they did not use his surname. and guys 15 years down the line we can not tolerate each other regardless of colour ? come on then why did Madiba go to jail for? the so called white people oppressed us let us not do the same, like Dr King in the US said let us fight with peace show them how stupid they are and we shall conquer.

23 April 2009

XTREME

Jules has become an icon and he’s only been in national politics for about 10 months…This kid is marvelous.
Don’t be fooled by the mainstream ridicule propaganda bull, they’re just threatened by his influence and emergence. If you don’t believe he’s influential dare him to mobilise the youth against Nandos.

23 April 2009

lucky nkosi

this is a good advert, you will get more profit

23 April 2009

othaniel nkosi

you are so creative, keep it up.

23 April 2009

Terri

This ad is not about black people not thinking for themselves – please lets not turn this into yet another racist issue. I think it is great – it is ripping off Malema who can shoot off his mouth to anyone but dare anyone retaliate and then freedom of speech no longer exists! Just shows what a small minded man he is. He can give but he cant take – if he had left it people would have laughed it off but he is making such a big deal about it Nandos is getting more publicity. Good on you guys – Definately dont “Chicken Out” Nando’s ROFL

24 April 2009

Theguys

Do any of you ingrates comprehend the concept of marketing. Take a second to get that chip of your shoulder because of the colour of your skin. If you feel anything but contempt and pity for Julius Malema you are obviously as diluded and daft as the man himself. If he had to drop fromm his ego to his IQ , he would probably never stop falling.

24 April 2009

rean

It such a shame that a good add like this must be removed due to threats of militant action. These ANCYL members really show their character with this.

24 April 2009

CHARLENE

i think this ad has directed to malema because malema is the only politician. so guys let malema excise his rights let the nandos people be punished. why dont they their own names and pictures to make adverts

24 April 2009

mako

i was waiting for this to happen, it just seems that every time there are one or two good ads, some people has to have a problem. just let the ad be, good job Nanodo’s

27 April 2009

Zo

Wagaggagghhhhhhhhhhh, ts..ts…ts…

Ive got some questions

1. Who said that was Julius Malema
2.Does it mean he agrees that this Julius who is sellin Nandos here, looks like him.
3.What make this adverb sound so ugly

Pls Nandos people make ur advert with me, i dont care as long as u wil pay me something by using my image in selling ur meat.

Son the Zapiro cartoons wil be prohibited, watch the space.

27 April 2009

Zo

sorry
advert……not adverb

27 April 2009

Zo

soon … not son

29 April 2009

ANCYL is untouchable...

whatever your future plans make sure you clear them with ANCYL first…otherwise there will be repercussions

simpra

Sorry, guys. I’m not political minded but I have a problem with the people that, whenever they want to make fun (esp.politically), they only do so at the expense of black people only (black culture, black political leaders etc).
Drive to work listening to the local radio station of which the listenership is predominantly white and all you will hear is jokes that comprise of what I mentioned above.
Why can’t these radio hosts as well as their comedians make fun of the white leader’s comments as well for once. Is it because their leaders are perfect or they are just biased.
I know we live in a democratic society but sometimes you just don’t expect these things on radios and televisions. Let these entities balance their scales of doing things.

i love Nandos SO much, i’m going to get some chicken RIGHT NOW… =P

LOL! this ads funny… not racist. in fact i think i would have laughed jst the same if the puppet was white!!!! life is so serious as it is, and laughter is the best medicine. I think we all need to make fun of ourselves once in a blue moon… good on u Nandos! :)

27 October 2009

sm

Wow!! its amazing how much of thought went into every little detail in this advert…. absolutely brilliant advert Nando’s. and the ad isnt racist in my view it just portrays Malema as he is…… as one man who looks to his master and obeys orders and who will do anything for his cause!
