Soweto flash flood damage

Please be patient while the player loads...

I am concerned about emergency services in our country and the hospital policies. I feel the government has to do something about subsidising victims interms of paying the hospital for first aid in those events and all major incident like the yesterdays floods all victims were supposed to be taken to the nearest hospital being private or public hospitals despite having medical aid , than people loosing their loved ones, sons, daughetrs and our parent whilst of being takeng to public hospitals that are far from the inccident point like baragwanath hospital. roads and drainage must be fixed and maintained regularly.

All these low lying bridges over the Juskei, have always been a disaster waiting to happen. It is shocking, that the government has failed to identify these weakest links in Soweto road networks; and says a lot about poor town planners, who leave in lofty and leafy surburbs where this is unheard of. I grew up in Soweto and embarassed that after all these years things have not changed enough to ensure that all its citizentry is protected. Soweto, as the most popular destination in the world, and being one of the most talked about historically where icons like, Madiba, Tutu, Sobukwe, Makwetu, Motlana, Steve Biko, etc established and commanded their leadership authority; deserves better than this disservice we are getting from our government. Very disappointing, to say, the least!

Maronza, you are a hero for having saved someon’s mother, sister or daughter. However if you did this from the goodness of your hear you’d need nothing in return. We are all affected by this in differrent ways. What happened to the spirit of UBUNTU
