Winnie in Feb: No more Mandela stories, please!
Some have questioned the authenticity of remarks made by Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in an interview with Nadira Naipaul published in the London Evening Standard. But already on 10 February 2010, Madikizela-Mandela said stories of other struggle heroes should be told as fully as the Mandela story.

I am stunned at the branding of Mandela as a traitor. In the bleakest of ironies Winnie says she is the only one who kept the struggle alive when the Mandelas were in jail and exile but she slams the reference of Madiba as vanguard. She exudes the bitterness and anguish of a scorned woman. You have to ask: Why now at the tail-end of Mandela’s life. Is it because the inheritance is en route to Mozambique should Mandela pass on? Can she bear just that thought,
She bemoans the statue in JHB. Aren’t we supposed to own every square metre of SA? She talks about the blood that flowed in Soweto. What about the blood of Stompie? Is Soweto the only place that should get kudos and recognition. There is a fundamental, if quixotic song and dance over nothing. What about Mandela been wheeled out at every turn. Why doesn’t she talk about the wheeling out during the ANC rallies at elections. Why must it be only where money is conerned.
