Is the British media nasty to Zuma?
Commentators are divided on whether President Jacob Zuma has been treated harshly by British media. Caxton Professor of Journalism at Wits University, Anton Harber, thinks the media has beenĀ unfair but Sowetan columnist, Andile Mngxitama, is not sympathetic.
Anthony Macrobert
A bunch of nonsence if you ask me. These British journalists just want to make Africa look bad. I mean if you going to write such a personal piece of writing the least you can do is write on facts and not to tell us our president has 35 kids. Where the hell do they get off. The British media is stupid plain and simple and we will not allow them to degrade our president and the nation with their unfounded insults, not that an insult could ever be founded to begin with. They must all jump off a cliff!
Archie Brown
The UK media dont need to make Zuma bad.He is quite capable of doing that by himself. The man is by his own admission an ill educated cretin who still believes the World operates in the Stone Age as he does.Outside of his sycophantic rabble he is regarded in the West as the African answer to Fred Flintstone except that Flintstone was funny. The problem for South Africans is that you need the Brits far more than they need you and you have chosen a would be despot to represent your interests. The other problem is that you cannot see it yet you are begging Europeans to visit your shores for the World Cup. All we have done is show him around London and now we will be showing him the door.Good riddance.
Archie Brown
Cliff do not be misled by what you hear and read from New Labour. They have nearly wrecked the UK with 13 years of marxist misrule but soon they will be out on their ear.Look at the readers comments in the likes of the Daily Mail and you will see the ordinary Brit had had enough of those vile African despots criticising us on the one hand and begging us for money on the other. The best solution for Africa is to give them absolutely nothing -zero – zilch and let them solve their own problems.
cliff
I couldn’t agree more! Look at Mugabe. He insults the States and the UK every chance he gets, everything is the West’s fault, but then he goes begging the next day for money at the same places. Anything you give them is quickly embezzled by them anyway, so you might as well give them nothing. Well said.
African
I am really dissapointed at you people, perhaps even disgusted is the word to use. Some of us [South Africans] aren’t proud of the man and his way of life. but that does not give anyone the right to generalise the entire country because of him. you seem to have this idea that all black people are the same, well maybe your fibble minds dont know this yet but we are also capable of using our “monkey” brains. what makes you think you have the right to criticize other races just because you live in the UK and you have white skin. i always reprimand other black people when they say they hate whites, but it is people like you that make me understand why they feel that way. Africa was fine before the white man landed on our shores, and you seem to forget where most if not all of your Queens gold comes from. learn to be objective and “Google” **** before you utter stupid and irrelevant comments.
when will people start looking past your skin colour and judge people based on their personality and not their culture, skin colour or goegraphical area.
YOU people are an excuse to the human race. we keep trying to forgive and forget all the things you’ve done to us but you just wont let up. YOU always want to be superior.
Please reasess your way of thinking and learn to be sensistive towards other people.

UK media is known around the world as a bunch of racists who will never repent.Their agenda against Africa is well documented, just people like me dont give a damn about them.Zuma is a non apologetic traditionalist, poligamist and an uncompromising strong African man who will never be destroyed nor affected by known nonsensical and troublesome UK media.I dont care what these clowns write about him as that wont change what i think of him
UK media and some white supremists think that for a human being to be normal, should adopt to western influence and i say to hell with that narrow mindedness.I support and will stand by my President come hell or heaven and the more they have a go at him is the more i elevate him to the status of Jesus.

I really do not think that you are a South African, because if you are, then you are staying in one of our Zoo because that is the only place you can see monkeys. Let me tell you about the outside of the Zoo; there are people who have brains, and have managed to bring this country to be a good place to live in. These people are still going to be in power for a long time and so my advice to you stay in the Zoo and see the monkeys, we in the outside will prosper.
CRAIG
Unfortunately we do live in a zoo. It’s called South Africa and it’s full of monkeys like you.
Pale African in UK
To be fair, the British press is “rude” to everyone. British politicians are constantly getting hammered. But…
In some ways, the problem is ours (i.e. us Africans) in that we allow the criticism to provoke us to resort to quite primative rhetoric. We take it very personally and so compound the problem. My view is that we should consider whether this level of press freedom has merit. I personally would rather suffer the offenses of a misinformed and biased press than risk having an oppressed media who simply pander to politicians (who lets face it need to be kept in check). I hope our president has noted how the previous PM (Blair) and the current one (Brown) are currently being grilled by the Chilcott inquiry. Its not perfect, but that is democracy in action and we can learn from the UK no matter how much populists knock the Brits.
Finally, to my fellow whiteys who insist on being so racist – I am sure you think you have a case, but truly – please stay away from the country and our people. To my black countrymen and women – PLEASE ignore these rediculous references from these bitter whiteys – they are wasting their lives with this archaic mindset.

Is the media(in general not just British) unfair against Zuma? should be the question. And the answer is yes, blatantly yes. Not saying people shouldn’t report on him or report only when its good. But they either have an agenda about him or are trying to sell papers. Media will never hardly ever publish anything good. I am sure many media places have teams just for getting the dirt and coming up with stuff, whether about him or his family, No matter what every weekend there will be a bad article bout him, even if he’s done good.
So much for neutral, unbiased reporting after the truth.
